Beyond Clean: Our Product Philosophy

At Naturopathica, we have always understood that our choices matter. The way we choose to produce, package, print and ship our products gives us the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world around us. This is why we extend our eco-awareness beyond our formulas to consider how everything we do affects the environment. Discover the choices we make every day to create a better world.

MADE IN THE USA

One of the first choices we made was to manufacture our products in the United States. Because we are passionate about creating safe and effective products, producing them in the U.S. ensures that our manufacturers are working under strict regulations set in place to protect the environment. Making products domestically also eliminates the international shipping required to import our goods back into the US. This limits petroleum usage and carbon emissions that damage the atmosphere, lessening our environmental footprint.

CLEAN INGREDIENTS

Our formulas are always created with your skin’s health in mind. That’s why we use clean ingredients to ensure that your skin is never exposed to toxic substances and known irritants. A benefit to seeking the least harmful ingredients is that they are often naturally-occurring and thus less damaging to the earth. A few of our green ingredient initiatives include:
Gentle Exfoliants - For the Earth and Your Skin
We have always chosen to use gentle exfoliants like Walnut Shell and Jojoba Beads in our formulas rather than microbeads. Microbeads are too small to get filtered out by water treatment plants, and as a result end up polluting our waterways and harming the aquatic ecosystem. When the ban on microbeads went into effect in 2017, we were already using a natural alternative. Our exfoliants are biodegradable, safe for the environment, and never irritate your skin.
Green Technology
We’ve discovered that some of the most powerful, naturally-derived ingredients today are plant cells, now key ingredients in many of our formulas. To extract plant cells, each plant is nicked at its area of new growth, either the buds or the roots, and when the plant begins to heal, cells from the wound-healing tissue are extracted. To achieve the most potent concentration of plant nutrients, we take small swatches of each plant and isolate the active parts in a lab which prevents the over-harvesting of scarce botanicals. Harvesting and cultivating plant cells in this way preserves countless plants, ensures a pesticide-free product, eliminates the need for GMOs and conserves tons of gallons of water, allowing us to use the most powerful and rare botanical extracts without endangering the species.
Sustainable Sourcing
A prime example of our commitment to sourcing sustainably is our Palm Oil. Palm Oil sourcing is one of the leading drivers of deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia, nations with large tropical forests, and the source of highly dangerous carbon emissions. According to the World Wildlife Fund, an area the equivalent size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour to make way for Palm Oil production, which has contributed to the endangering of various species. Our Palm Oil is sustainably harvested from virgin palm trees and is NON-GMO. Our supplier is on the Sustainable Palm Harvesting Round Table which is committed to not purchasing Palm Oil from newly cleared forest land. Instead, our Palm Oil comes from palm plantations that are 20-30 years old and from crop land, areas that have been designated for farming so that we help protect the rainforest.

RESPONSIBLE PACKAGING

Because we are Ecocert certified, our packaging is already vetted to be environmentally friendly. However, we take this requirement a step further. With every packaging update, we strive to make our tubes, cartons and labels even more sustainable. Now our cartons contain 100% post-consumer recyclable materials. We are proud to have found urea-free caps that are made from fully-recyclable polypropylene with an aluminum shell.
Our bottles are made from PET plastic or glass, which is fully recyclable. PET plastic does not contain BPA. It is globally recognized as a safe material for the storage of food and beverages, and has gone through scientific testing and analysis to ensure that it is safe for the public. It also has the least amount of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption when compared to aluminum cans and other glass bottles.

DELIVERED TO YOU WITH CARE

The last step in the process of creating a clean, sustainable supply chain is distribution. Our shipping boxes and packing materials are biodegradable to help reduce the amount of toxic waste on the earth’s surface. You will never find Naturopathica products shipped with Styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap, plastics or any other materials that are potentially hazardous to the environment.
When your Naturopathica products arrive, you can rest assured each choice has been thoughtfully made when it comes to supporting and protecting our earth. We are dedicated to continuing to research and discover even better ways to reduce our environmental impact, to create a cleaner world for those to come.
