I have always disliked the labeling of “normal” skin types as it gives a poor
connotation for everyone who does not fit into that description (are they
"abnormal"?) But a balanced skin personality is one in which the types of
problems swing within a fairly good performance range and requires minimal
attention. Over 75% of women fall into this category.
Do any of the following traits apply to your skin?
• Needs minimal attention
• Oiliness and dryness may fluctuate but are not predominant one way or the
other
• Breaks out or develops rash or rosacea occasionally
• Smooth and even texture
• Average pore size
Skincare Regimen:
Cleansing: adjust cleansing regimen to use a sulfate-free gel-based
cleanser when skin is in oily phase and cream cleanser during dry phase. Wash
once, and if necessary, twice a day. Try Aloe Cleansing Gel or Chamomile
Cleansing Cream
Exfoliation: use a AHA or fruit enzyme peel or an exfoliating scrub 2-3
times a week. Try Skin Renewal Gel 10%, Environmental Defense Mask or
Cleansing Facial Scrub
Toning: Mist the skin throughout the day with homeopathic floral waters.
Try Lavender or Orange Blossom Hydrolat
Face Oil or Moisturizer: Use a lightweight face oil with a base of
vegetal oils such as jojoba or apricot kernel blended with balancing essential
oils such as neroli. Try Neroli Toning Serum
Use a light to medium weight moisturizer with antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C
and E. Try Beech Tree & Ginseng Daily Moisture Treatment or Lavender UV
Protective Cream
Skin Fitness:
Eat beauty foods fortified with Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’S) containing
Linoleic Acid found in wild salmon, mackeral or flaxseed. EFA’s help skin cells
maintain water as well as build dermal ceramides, which are the binding agent
between cells that give skin firmness and tonicity.
Eat richly colored fruits and vegetables filled with anti-oxidant beta carotenes
such as cantaloupe, grapefruit, mangoes, carrots, peppers and dark leafy greens
to delay the signs of aging.
Herbal Remedies:
Drink five cups of green tea daily rich in anti-oxidants
Add skin healing herbs such as Burdock Root, Red Clover Blossom and Dandelion
Root to juice or tea. Try Clarifying Skin Tonic
Apply Tea Tree Oil to skin with Q-tip to help clear up occasional break outs
Take Bach Flower Rescue Remedy as directed for stress
Skinceuticals:
· Take a multi-vitamin daily. Try Naturopathica Multi-Vitamin Preventative .
· Take extra doses of Vitamin C during stressful periods to bolster the immune
system and to support the collagen and elastin matrix of the skin.
Beauty & Balance:
Select a relaxing ritual to practice daily like gardening, knitting or yoga. Try
to incorporate a monthly maintenance program of massage or heat therapy such as
sauna or steam bath.
Special Rx:
Boost skin with an exfoliating face mask once a week to brighten complexion
Incorporate a facial massage with your choice of serum twice a month to
stimulate circulation and give the skin a healthy glow
Schedule a holistic deep cleansing facial a minimum of four times a year to keep
skin clear and revitalized
